RVB Fanfiction Chapter 5

Chapter 5

He first showed me to a laboratory and inside I saw Frost's work area and a few test chambers.  He showed me how to add and subtract objects and modify my area to the exact way that I wanted in the test chambers.  There was even a vertical wind tunnel that I played in for a while.  

Then Frost gestured for me to follow him again as we exited the laboratory and he began to run off t o the right.

I was easily keeping up with Frost even when he began sprinting down the hallways.  He made multiple turns and each new hallway was lit with a different color light.  The first was blue, then green, yellow, red, pink, purple, and finally white.  At the second door on the left side of the white hallway, he stopped, panting slightly.

"Close your eyes," he instructed, his hand on the door handle.

"Why....?"

"Because I said so.  Just close them already.  And no peeking."

"Fine.  Just don't make me taste anything," I said, squeezing my eyes shut.

He gave a low chuckle and I heard him open the door.  His hand grabbed my wrist and lead me into the room, closing the door behind us.  

"You can open your eyes now."

My eyes fluttered open to find something completely unexpected.  I wasn't in a small dorm-like room or in some random bedroom or anything like that, I was in a beautiful apartment (if that's what you could call it).

The room made a bit of a u shape around a small walled of area that had two doors in the front.

Frost gestured for me to look around.

In the front of the room there was a small sitting area with a comfortable-looking couch, 2 reclining chairs, a bamboo coffee table, and a screen that could probably be used as a computer as well as a television.  

On the right side there was a beautiful kitchen with bamboo cabinets and black granite counter tops.  When I looked in the cabinets I found all sorts of pots, pans, exotic spices, teas, and so many other objects that it would take almost an entire page to list them.

The left side was a small garden filled with an assortment of beautiful Asian plants.  Above that garden was a small loft under at what appeared to be the night sky.  Up on the loft was a small cot with a black blanket and white sheets.  It looked like a very peaceful place to nap.

In the corner between the garden and the sitting area there was a simple black piano.

I immediately felt attracted to the piano.  I walked up to it and played a few notes.  It was the most beautiful sound that I had heard in a long time.  I sat down at the bench and began to play a random song from memory.  When it had gotten to the vocals I finally recognized the song.

It was Magnet.  A song about forbidden lovers.  It immediately reminded me of the few minutes I had just spent with Maine and our "forbidden" love.  The moments we had spent together were breath-taking, but now it has been yanked away from us.  

Or at least from me.  I'm not entirely sure how Maine felt about it.  Maybe he was only doing it because I was pretty and he wanted sex or something.  

No... that can't be.  The look in his eyes wasn't the same as the hungry stares that I would get from the sexually abusive boyfriends that I had.  It was softer but still had a strong intensity that kept me from looking away.  The look almost said "I could never hurt you on purpose."  Even the gazes that I would get from my fiance didn't have the same power to them that Maine's did.  His was..... different.

All of those thoughts went through my head in a matter of milliseconds.  

I decided that I was going to sing and finish the song.

Kabosoi hi ga kokoro no hashi ni tomoru

Along with the mental sound of Maine growling or humming I sung the next verse.

Once again I sung alone.  

Dakiyosete hoshii tashikamete hoshii
Machigai nado nain da to omowasete
KISU wo shite nurikaete hoshii
Miwaku no toki ni yoishire oborete itai no

The music was quickly taking over me.  I caught a glimpse of Frost walking over to listen before I let myself drown in the beautiful sound of the piano.  Soon I barely even noticed that I was still singing, instead my mind was repeating the scene that had played only minutes earlier.

Frost had left shortly after the song was over.  He had quickly explained that I no longer needed food or sleep.  I could get energy by plugging the plug that he told me was in the bottom of my foot into the outlet or even by eating batteries (though he said that that didn't get me a lot of energy and would seem weird to some people).  After that, he told me that he would be sleeping in the room next to this one and to knock on his door if I needed anything.

When he had left, I decided to make some tea to help me relax (not that I actually needed it, FILSS said that she could easily adjust my emotions to make me feel calmer).  After a little searching in the kitchen, I was able to find a packet of green tea and a teacup that had the Wyvern family crest on it (I was a little confused to see that, but I just went along with it).  After heating the water I had decided to check out the loft area above the garden.  I set my cup down on the railing as I looked up at what turned out to be only a projection of the night sky.  It was incredibly well made.  I could see each and every star that it was possible to see perfectly.  I started looking for the constellations that my father always showed me.

"The big dipper, ursa minor, gemini...." I mumbled to myself as I pointed out the constellations.  As my finger traced them, they lit up.  I was quite impressed, but kept my expression blank as I tried adjusting the angle of the sky.  It moved easily with a small movement of my index finger.

After playing around with the projection for a while and after downing the rest of my tea, I decided to get to know my new AI.

"So FILSS, are you online?" I asked slowly.

"Affirmative," came her response.

"Tell me a little about yourself."

"Alright," she said before telling me about her creator and how she was used to operate much of Project Freelancer before being copied in order to be integrated into my body.  

"Do you remember anything from Project Freelancer?  Any secrets or anything?"

"Affirmative, but I am unable to reveal many of them.  I will only give them to you when and if you ever need them for a mission."

"It figures......  Say, do you know anything about Frost?" I asked mischievously.

"Affirmative."

"Anything that I could use to my advantage?"

"Affirmative.  He is very easily frightened."

I gave a mildly thoughtful look.  "Do you think we could pull a prank on him?  I really love the feeling of scaring someone."

"Affirmative.  I would suggest pulling the prank tomorrow since it will be Halloween."

"Then let's get to work!"
